WHO Survey Coordinating Center, Drug Injecting Study-Phase 2

This study focuses on HIV infection among IDUs, but also addresses other problems of international importance, including other "emerging/re-emerging" infectious diseases (such as HCV), overdoses, and transitions between NIU and IDU. The study involves the combined use of Rapid Assessment and Response (RAR) methods plus a Cross-Sectional Questionnaire Survey of drug users coupled with serological testing for HIV, HBV and HCV. Dr. Don Des Jarlais of CDUHR comprise the NYC Survey Coordinating Center (NYC-SCC) responsible for coordination of the multi-city survey in cooperation with WHO and in consultation with the Centre for Research on Drugs and Health Behaviour (CRDHB) at Imperial College School of Medicine in London.
