Buprenorphine telehealth treatment initiation and follow-up during COVID-19
summary
“Improving access to evidence-based addiction treatment is crucial to reduce overdose deaths but is just one part of a comprehensive approach to ending the current overdose crisis. Addressing social determinants of health and structural inequities, expanding harm reduction policies and programs, expanding access to mental health treatment, and drug decriminalization are evidence-based, public health approaches to reducing substance use–related morbidity and mortality. Tele-buprenorphine — even when delivered primarily via audio — presents an important opportunity to expand treatment access.”
