“In the face of legal and financial pressure from the Government, there is growing danger that important institutional actors will abandon the goal of building representative health-care and health science workforces. Appeals to institutional values of equity, justice, and non-discrimination, along with superficial and tokenistic commitments to advancing a more representative health-care workforce, might remain in place, but without accountability linked to explicit goals, institutions are incentivised to overcorrect to pre-empt legal challenges and financial penalties. Greater US health-care workforce representativeness is a goal we need to actively work towards, not secretly hope for” (p. 1337). Full citation:
