Kurt Koehler is originally from Northern Virginia. He completed his undergraduate degree in Health and Societies with a minor in Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania. Between college and medical school, he did a gap year as a Health Coach with the Camden Coalition of Healthcare Providers, a healthcare nonprofit in Camden, NJ that helps medically and socially complex patients with frequent hospital readmissions. He attended medical school at Temple University where he received his MD and MA in Urban Bioethics, and completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Pennsylvania. His clinical interests include HIV/HepC as well as addiction medicine and infectious complications of injection drug use. Dr. Koehler’s research interests include qualitative research and ethnography with a particular focus on lived experiences of patients with opioid use disorder and historical and social forces leading to the opioid epidemic in post-industrial Philadelphia.
