Svetlana Shpiegel is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work and Child Advocacy, Montclair State University. Her research focuses primarily on the functioning of adolescents and young adults involved with the foster care system. She is especially interested in expectant and parenting youth with histories of child maltreatment and foster care, including their experiences of substance use. Dr. Shpiegel has expertise working with large administrative datasets in child welfare, such as the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS), and the National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System (NCANDS). Her past and current research projects have been funded by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Vital Strategies Foundation, Center for the Study of Social Policy, and the Administration for Children and Families, Office of Planning, Research, and Evaluation Projects
