Project dates: February 2025 - January 2027
Principal Investigator: Hochstatter, KarliProject dates: February 2025 - January 2027
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Despite the abundance of evidence demonstrating that people bereaved by overdose are at higher risk of poor health outcomes than people bereaved by other types of deaths, health promotion and illness prevention interventions have never been scientifically studied among people who experience loss to overdose.
This study will investigate the impact of an intervention, delivered by trained social workers and implemented in the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office, to reduce grief severity, prevent substance misuse, and improve bereavement-related functioning among fatal overdose victims’ social network members.
