Principal Investigator: Allen, BennettProject dates: May 2024 - April 2025
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Overdose mortality remains a leading public health crisis in New York City (NYC) and is a key driver of declining life expectancy and growing racial and ethnic inequities.
In response, NYC launched HealthyNYC, a visionary agenda to increase life expectancy in NYC to 83 years by 2030.
To inform HealthyNYC’s efforts, this study:
- Developed a novel, simulation model to predict the impact of overdose prevention investments on overall overdose mortality and life expectancy;
- Estimated the impact of overdose prevention investments on racial and ethnic disparities in overdose mortality and life expectancy; and
- Identified the most cost-effective and equitable allocation of resources to reduce overdose mortality and increase life expectancy.
